"Alaya Decor" Disappears, Customers Burned

"Your Designer Furniture Source For Trouble"

We feel for you. Alaya Decor was an affiliate outlet through correspondence with Wholesale Furniture Brokers for about 2 years. All ties have been cut, however, due to very negative customer feedback and their high, unpaid balance on their account with us. Owners Jeff and Selene Hill have disappeared, you can even see a local news piece on the issue here:
Alaya Decor story.

They owe alot of local customers furniture, having seemingly run a last-ditch effort for cash by tricking people out of their money before suddenly closing their doors. WFB now has a collection agency after the Hills for their very behind account payments.

We regret any use of our company name used to help them confirm any business qualifications and will supply any information possible on contacting them (and encourage others to post any news here as well). We will update this blog post as information becomes available.

Super Bowl XLII is Over! So Who Won a Leather Recliner?

Many contestants entered our Super Bowl XLII Leather Recliner Contest to have a chance to win a leather recliner by Stanley Chair. If someone wanted to enter the contest, they would have to write a blog post including a link to our website, describe which recliner they want, and predict the final score of Super Bowl XLII.

The final score of Super Bowl XLII was New York Giants 17, New England Patriots 14. No one in our contest correctly predicted the final score, so we randomly drew one of our contestant's names to have a winner. We chose Kim Rowley, the owner of SportTheStyle.com.

Furniture News: Furniture.com has acquired FurnitureFind.com

On Oct. 9th, 2007, Furniture.com announced that it has acquired FurnitureFind.com without disclosing terms of the deal. According to the PR, the existing customers of FurnitureFind will have their orders fulfilled. If you look on the FurnitureFind website, many of the products are showing as ‘out of stock’ so the companies are quickly switching to Furniture.com’s model of fulfilling orders through local retailers. The press release is published on FurnitureFind.com but nothing of it is mentioned at Furniture.com, not even on their press page.

Does anyone have any comments on what this means for eCommerce in the furniture industry?

Anyone want to speculate on what value FurnitureFind.com sold for?

Has anyone else heard about this? Gately’s bankruptcy, which operates a number of eCommerce sites is rumoured to have filed Chapter 11. Does anyone have any hard evidence on this?

Online Furniture Store in a Fight

Luxury furniture makers and their affiliated sellers are taking aim at Europe by Net, an Internet company based in London. It is run by Julie Edwards and is offering $11,000 Italian sofas for $8,000. Why the controversy? Read the full story on this online furniture store fight.

Wholesale Furniture Brokers now Advertising on "5 Minutes for Mom"

Wholesale Furniture Brokers has posted advertising on a website that we feel is worth some extra kudos. Started by fellow web-entrepreneurs Susan & Janice (who are both very pleasant to work with), 5 Minutes For Mom is a great web ring for all work-at-home moms, helping with recipes, experiences, website/blog links and, yes, kids furniture. Check it out, and don't forget, moms, we have grownup furniture too!

Furniture Shoppers Want Your Opinion Online

Globe & Mail recently reported that consumers (possibly one reading this sentence) are shopping for furniture online, rather than going store-to-store in their community.

"About 38 per cent of online buyers visited more than one online store this year before making a purchase, an increase of four percentage points from 2006, the study by J.C. Williams Group found Wednesday.
The survey also showed that online buyers are early adopters of social networking such as writing or reading blogs, customer reviews, and community websites. They're more likely to share their opinions and give reviews online than people who shop the old-fashioned way."

It stands to reason that people prefer to hear opinions and information from their peers as opposed to reading a splashy sales ad from a business trying to make a sale. Wholesale Furniture Brokers has always displayed customer opinions on their furniture testimonial page and is already featuring their Furniture Review pages and look forward to sharing thoughts and opinions with their customers across North America.
